More About Fourth Pov, Inc
Building Futures Through Story, Literacy, and Voice.

We believe every young person deserves the tools to think critically, write boldly, and imagine beyond circumstance. At Fourth Pov, Inc., we use storytelling, literacy, and publishing to help youth in underrepresented communities shape their own futures.
Our Mission
To inspire and empower youth through writing, publishing, and literacy programs rooted in equity, creativity, and opportunity.
Why Storytelling Matters
We believe storytelling is more than self-expression — it’s a gateway to education, healing, leadership, and lifelong growth.
How We Work
Through our programs, workshops, and writing prompt journals, we partner with schools and community organizations to create opportunities for underserved youth to discover their voice—and use it to build a future filled with purpose, confidence, and possibility.
Our Core Programs
Creative tools. Cultural connection. Lasting change.

Literacy
Where untold stories find their voice.
Expanding access to high-quality, culturally relevant writing and literacy programming—helping youth and adults discover their voice through storytelling, mentorship, and creative expression.

Financial Literacy
Learn to turn creativity into currency.
Where storytelling meets financial empowerment. Participants learn how to turn their words into wealth through self-publishing, budgeting, and creative entrepreneurship.

Journalism
Write the truth. Change the narrative.
A youth-led civic journalism and media literacy initiative giving students the tools to challenge misinformation, amplify their stories, and speak on issues that shape their communities and future.

STE(A)M
Imagine. Invent. Inspire through story and science.
Merging creative writing with STEM, this program invites youth to become storytellers, coders, inventors, and world-builders—bridging imagination, innovation, and hands-on learning.

Mental Health
Write what hurts. Heal what’s hidden.
Creative writing as emotional healing. This program offers safe, culturally responsive spaces to process trauma and build emotional literacy through journaling, poetry, and storytelling.

Why Literacy Still Matters
The Power of Words Can Change a Life
Literacy isn’t just about reading books. It’s about building confidence, understanding the world, and unlocking futures. For many kids in under-resourced communities, it’s the first step toward believing their voice matters.
In 2022, just 18% of Black fourth-grade students in U.S. public schools performed at or above the proficient reading level, compared to 44% of white students.
Only about 5% of published authors in the U.S. are Black, despite Black individuals comprising over 12% of the U.S. workforce.
Engaging in creative writing helps children develop self-esteem, mindfulness, and emotional expression, contributing positively to their overall well-being.

Starting a Nonprofit in the Era of [Current Administration]
When we launched Fourth Pov, Inc., more than a few people asked: “Why now?” Why start something new in the midst of such political tension? Why launch a literacy nonprofit while executive orders are shifting the landscape of education? Why focus on creative writing...
